Tragic Death Of Whanganui Doctor
Published: 03 Jan 2017 - - Author: Newsroom

It is with a heavy heart that we report the sudden death of Dr Chris Cresswell, acting head of Whanganui Hospital's Emergency Department. He is understood to have died in a mountain biking accident at Matipo Park on Saturday. Police won't release details until Wednesday.

He began his medical career as a junior doctor at Whanganui Hospital, then qualified as an emergency physician in Christchurch before returning to the city about 7 years ago.

He was responsible for the setting up of a natural therapy pilot for hospital staff in 2012. It offered massage and traditional Maori healing. He worked alongside Iwi and was prominent in advancing Maori health.

As well as his professional career in medicine, Dr Cresswell was passionate about equality and the environment.

Dr Cresswell will be a huge loss to our community and our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this most difficult time. RIP Chris.
